Does your child know their Pin Number?

Parents don't realize how important it is for your children to learn and memorize their pin numbers. I didn't either until I assisted with First Grade Lunch last September. The kids came into the cafeteria the first day of school, fresh off of summer vacation. They were very hungry and eager to get their lunches and get to the cafeteria but there was a constant hold up in the line. Many kids did not know their Pin numbers.
This caused kids to have to wait (even those only buying milk), lunch to run late and the kids to be rushed, stress on the teachers and staff, and the KPSPTO had to be present at lunch hour for weeks into the school year. This year, the KPSPTO has made "pin number cards" for all first graders. The card is worn around the neck with their number on one side and name and number on the other. When the child reaches the POS machine, he/she holds the card up and punches in the number.
At the same time, the cashier can also punch in the number because it is in plain view of her. We think this system is going to help enormously but it is not the solution. The solution is to have your child memorize his/her number. It's also a good idea to give the older kids a refresher on their number prior to the first day of school. They will use this number all the way up through high school. Parents are always asking "what can I do to help." Help your child...practice their pin number daily.
