Hand Sanitizers pose a serious threat if ingested
Sometimes the things we take for granted need
to be scrutinized from a child's point of view.
Hand sanitizers, those little bottles of chemicals
that have become so common in households, schools
and anywhere germs may hide, may have a hidden
danger when viewed from a child's perspective,
especially toddlers and younger kids. Since they
have a high alcohol content, (that's why they
evaporate so quickly), ingesting as little as
an ounce can cause alcohol poisoning. Flowery
fragrances and bright colors may tempt kids to
taste those everyday things that they are familiar
with, even when we, as adults, would think that
the awful taste would deter them. In younger kids,
poisoning by this stuff is a real danger. In toddlers,
the results can be even worse...or fatal.
Take
a look at the anecdotal evidence, followed by
some common sense explanations here.
